The Return of the Sword is an anthology from Cyberwizard Productions, edited by Jason M. Waltz. Mr. Waltz deserves accolades for selecting such a large number of quality stories for a single publication. This rivals (and even surpasses) some entries in Andrew Offutt's Swords Against Darkness series, of which I'm also fond. I'll offer brief comments about each story in this action-packed. Just what did it take to find, bind, and mind the twenty-one entries that create The Return of the Sword: An Anthology of Heroic Adventure (RotS)? Nothing more than access to a remaining inventory of accepted stories, a couple years' worth of reviewing and critiquing, a remembered blog post, and an expectant boss. Return of the Sword-Jason M. The "Return of the Sword" is aptly titled: the Heroic Fantasy (Sword Sorcery) genre may have originated with bltadwin.ru's Conan ~'s, but it is alive and well; this anthology captures the renewed direction (s). Anthologies are a great way to discover new authors (well, new for the reader anyway). A review there led me straight to Jason M. Waltz and Rogue Blades. "Return of the Sword" was released in October, , and I know I'm late in writing about it, but here goes. First off, it's at least an equal to any of the Carter's or Offutt's collections. Filled mostly with newish authors rather than long time genre fixtures it's more like. So opens the preface by editor Jason M. Waltz. And what would life be without behemoth challenges? And what would fantasy fiction be without monsters? Cripes why are so few anthologies devoted to them? Rogue Blades Entertainment (RBE, publishers of the superb Return of the Sword) filled this much needed gap in literature.
